About Whitstable Yacht Club
WYC Windsurfing & Sailing School
The school, established in 1996 by former Commodore Ian Wild, runs courses for both non-members and any club members wishing to hone their skills.
It was set up to promote windsurfing and sailing and as a way of introducing people to one of the UK's top sailing clubs. It quickly developed a reputation for providing first class tuition using the best modern equipment. One of the smallest Royal Yachting Association Training Centres, Wild Times is unique in that it operates throughout the season within a traditional yacht club. Many novices enjoy the courses so much that they soon become enthusiastic members of the club.
All the instructors and assistants are experienced sailors from within the club and all hold appropriate RYA qualifications. All have a passion for sailing. A recent RYA inspection described it as "a very well run and well organised centre".
Courses
Instructors
Dinghy and Windsurfing Instructor Courses are run in April.
Powerboating
Our core activities are dinghy sailing and windsurfing but we also offer powerboating up to safety boat level in planing craft.
Junior and youth sailing
We run junior weeks for children between 8 and 11 and youth weeks for those age 12 upwards during the school holidays. These are very popular and early booking is essential.
The school also organises the club's Cadet Sail Training programme on Friday evenings throughout the summer. This is only open to existing club members.
