Hi everyone,

The Bar, Catering and Social Committee have listened to what you have been saying about Friday food at the Club. You’ve made it clear that you would like a more “spontaneous” arrangement on Fridays. A lot of you also felt that Friday food was on the expensive side.

We have therefore reduced the price of the food to £6.00 (with a vegetarian option) and one dessert. You no longer need to book (although if you want to reserve your food it is wise to call in advance). As our cook will be on the premises preparing evening food we thought it a good idea to offer lunches on a Friday too. These will also be £6.00.

We did trial this a couple of weeks ago and sold 30 covers which proves that this is exactly what people want. Obviously we are not a restaurant and cannot cater for all tastes but we hope that most things will appeal to everyone.

Support is very important to keep this facility going so please remember it as an option when you are feeling peckish on a Friday night. We are lucky enough to have a very good cook who has a lot of ideas for reasonably priced food and we would like to keep her busy. Let us know if you have any ideas - we can’t promise anything but we will be happy to mention this to Wendy.

These are difficult times for most bars and restaurants (businesses in general) and it is up to you the member to keep the spirit of the club alive, particularly throughout the winter months.

We look forward to seeing you all next Friday.

Melanie

Club democracy in question! I hear from Landlords around the town that run pool teams, that the WYC pool table is on the move to the sea room & it’s not even been discussed on a committee yet. We have had pool tables in the sea room, they don’t last. All you parents that congregate with you children/toddlers, do you agree with pool cues being used in the only designated area for the children?

RNLI Radios

I have just seen this on the Dart 18 Website. Like Barry, I don’t know how much fact or fiction is involved but it does seem a bit silly, so I signed it!

“RADIOS BILL MAY SCUPPER RNLI

LIFEBOAT crews fear being scuppered by crippling new charges for using their radios from Ofcom, the communications regulator. The RNLI could see the price of using its VHF emergency frequencies rise to £250,000 under plans to charge the full commercial rate.

The charity, which saves hundreds of lives every year currently pays an annual £48,000 at a discounted rate of 50 per cent. It relies on donations and fears the move will have a disastrous impact on fundraising. Peter Bradley, RNLI operations staff officer, said: ‘It’s a lot of money when you think in terms of lifeboat days and little old ladies collecting pound coins.’”

However the Ofcom website http://www.ofcom.org.uk/media/features/rnliradio says

We’re committed to ensuring that the use of spectrum by these charities is fully protected, and to supporting their work.
One option under consideration would allow charities such as the RNLI to benefit by paying lower fees in future than now.
This is because the proposals allow organisations that have a large number of transmitters around the country to take out a single a UK-wide licence.

We expect that for widespread organisations like the RNLI this would be much cheaper than holding a separate licence for each channel at each location.
We estimate that, based on the RNLI’s use, its fee under the new arrangements would be less than £20,000.
Our consultation period runs until 30 October and will be followed by a more detailed set of proposals around the turn of the year.

Hi All
The Forts Race is being held on the 20th and 21st of September.

We are looking for people that can help with rescue boat for 1 or both of the days
Saturday will be a standard open for Cats and Sunday is the Forts Race

This is one of the fun ones to do in the Rescue Boat because of the distances involved.

And remember there is no Racing that weekend for any monohull class so

If you think you can help out as a crew for a rescue boat either let me know
