It was another sunny, windless lake that greeted sailors on arrival. However, as with last week the wind crept in on cue to allow an interesting race.
Since the wind was from SE no 1 was the windward mark, with a decision as to which side of the island to try? Once again it was a split decision with Roger Hodgekinson (left) round just ahead of your author (right) followed by Chris Brearly, Kim Leatt, Simon Northrop and Dave Sinnock.
Chris and Roger made a break on the third leg by running by the lee along the north shore to good effect. However, they were passed by Kim on the second beat, who then went on to sail superbly to take the win. Chris managed to hold off Roger and the rapidly catching fleet down the last run to take 2nd, with Roger 3rd and your author just pipped by Dave for 4th (teach me to tack out!).
Altogether a beautiful day with great tactical sailing, and another great Whitstable turnout with John, Charlie, Peter, Toby, Tom and Sophie in Lasers and Bob Long crewed by Julie Puckett in their Albacore.
Also good to see Jon Silk onshore, still suffering with his back and wishing he was out there! Good luck with the injection Jon!
