Report:

21 boats took to the water on Sunday 30th Nov in a dry F2-3 north easterly. The fleet comprised of mainly regulars in the 12 Lasers, whilst a bolstered Handicap fleet included a number of new cadets including 3 radials from Whitstable (Siobhan Lamb, Alicia Clifford and Hannah Fagg) and also joining the racing for the first time was Hannah Golton from Herne Bay in her Topper.

In the Laser fleet, Rick Perkins led for most of the race to take a win and lead the series overall, Lee Goodey his main contender had a difficult day on the water and despite recovering well and finishing second on the water agreed to retire over a dispute regarding the Out of Bounds rules. In third place was Kim Leatt who had initially pushed Rick but was finally overhauled by Lee. Lee’s retirement bumped Kim up to third.

In the Handicap fleet, Clive Morley in his Phantom, led the fleet round mixing it with the Laser fleet that he had caught up despite starting 3 minutes later. Behind him the Laser Radial of Siobhan sailed very well to make up for a late start, but not enough to catch Clive on handicap. Hannah Golton in the Topper was going very well ahead of Henry Hickson until taking the wrong course caused her to be a long way behind Henry until he also sailed the wrong course, but he recovered to hold Hannah at bay at take 3rd place overall. The Radials of Alicia Clifford fought a close battle to finish seconds apart.

Was Lee the only one of the people who sailed out of bounds to retire?

Yes. He felt that he did not want any awkwardness if he went on to win the series.

Furthermore, it is suggested that that area is considered out of bounds for rest of the season, but I suggest this is clarified with Richard before next weeks sailing as I am not likely to be around for the next few weeks.

Fair play to Lee.

So the others who gained significant advantage by sailing out of bounds were happy to not retire; that is pretty sad.

The situation regarding the boundaries is clearly marked on the course board and the two maps on the notice board.

What happens going forwards?
