An unusual wind across the lake and a course that used every bouy on the lake and took the fleet through the cut was bound to test and frustrate, especially with a highly biased line and a fetch to no 6.
However, Colin Smith made it look easy and led the fleet for the first lap of the complex course, at least until the cut! There things changed somewhat and Simon Northrop looked to be sliding up the lee shore anod off over the horizon. Things are rarely what they seem at Westbere, and once round the top of the island young Richard and your author made a break for the tiny white bouy, once some confusion over a re-rounding of no 6 started by Simon was sorted out. The pack also included a brace of Goodeys, both Lee and Tom who were to wrestle to the finish.
On returning to the cut your author had a modest lead from Richard, with the Goodeys not far behind. The usual frustrations led to Richard falling back behind the Goodeys, and it was a race between father and son to the finish. Father won out in the end, so the finish order was your author, Lee, Tom and Richard.
