It was clear that racing was going to be a little different with the lake mirror smooth and barely a breath of wind. However, the sun encouraged the strong turnout to rig, and on cue the lightest of breezes arrived as the start gun was fired.
The fleet set off to no 1, splitting either side of the island with your author and Roger Hodgkinson leading having gone right, closely followed by Steve Restall and Rick Perkins who had gone to the left.
A good tussle followed through the one lap race for 3rd between Steve and Rick, with Dave Sinnock and Simon Northrop somewhere close behind.
Things were going well for Roger in 2nd until no 2 which he rounded the wrong way - surprising since he set the course! He was informed of his error by those following and corrected himself, which allowed Steve and Rick to catch and pass on the drift down the lake.
At the finish your author was deemed OCS, which left Steve Restall in 1st, followed by Rick, Roger and Dave.
It was another great turnout from Whitstable boats with John Cooper, Sophie, Charlie, Gary, Toby, Tom and Peter also enjoying the sun. Some even complained of being too hot!
