Given it was going to be a lovely day weatherwise it was no surprise that the turnout was respectable for the 2010 March Hare… What was surprising was that the younger generation did rather well when they should have been elseware…
The wind was more gusty and shifty than normal - which is going some… However the handicap start had to decide just how windy it was going when the gun went to decide how close to shore to risk. The majority were ‘normal’ Lasers, wit an intrepid Topper, a Radial and a bandit with a ‘Rooster 8.1’ (cheers Roger)…
The first race saw a tight start and run down to no 2, back up to B and down to the bottom of the lake. By then the early leaders had run out of puff and Chris Brealy and your author led the pack. Back up to no 6 that 8.1 was tracking your author, and onto the 2nd lap Roger pulled clear, but not far enough to hold his handicap. So your author won, followed be Lee Goodey and Simon Northrop..
The 2nd race saw the wind shift to see the leg to 6 become more of a fetch - with a few shifts to challenge. Simon managed his seemingly normal brilliant start and led off to the no 6. At this point your author has to confess that I have no idea who led as being OCS never caught up to find out… The old fox Roger slinked away to lead to the finish and hold his handicap ahead of the youngsters Richard, Tom and Elliott. Lee managed a strong finish despite falling in on the run.
So overall in a tight finish it was Roger who won, followed by those with a proper handicap - Lee, Elliott, Tom and your author…
Good racing and thanks to the team for organising the racing and the weather…
2 more to go…
