EVENT CANCELLED - LASER WORLD & EUROPEAN QUALIFIER

We’re sorry to announce that the Laser European Qualifier planned for this weekend has been cancelled. Whitstable Yacht Club has worked closely with the UK Laser Class Association, and we’ve reluctantly agreed that this is the right decision in line with the class/event rules, based on the extreme weather forecast. Competitors who have already registered and members of the class association will receive more information on the cancellation and future plans shortly.

Cadet and families session - this week

Please note that owing to the Laser International event no other sailing is scheduled for the coming weekend, 21-22 October. The next cadets' session will be on Saturday 28 October followed by the Halloween party.

One place is still available on the Autumn Half Term course for stage 2 or stage 3 at Westbere lake on Monday 23 and Tuesday 24 October with a third day at WYC on either Wednesday 25 or Thursday 26 depending on conditions. The course would be suitable for a cadet who has taken stage one or wishing to consolidate their ability at the higher levels. Please contact Richard or Ruth asap for details:

Laser World and European Qualifiers, 21st-22nd October - boat parking moves

The Laser Qualifiers at Whitstable Yacht Club is nearly upon us with 100+ boats expected! To make room for our visiting sailors, the whole of the beach in front of the club from the ramp to the first groyne to the west needs to be cleared of all boats. If your boat is parked on this beach, please move it to the aisles of the next beaches along. Please park neatly and try not to block the aisles completely. Any boats not moved by Monday 16th October will be cleared by a working party during the week.
There is no club sailing that weekend, so if you are at a loose end, please come down and watch the racing or even better help out! We could still do with some extra volunteers in the Harbour on both days. Please email Peter Gowing at Laser@wyc.org.uk if you can help.
Many thanks in advance to all the volunteers who have pledged to help in running this prestigious event.

Boat, trolley and cover markings

A few recent incidents have highlighted the importance of being able to identify boats and equipment, especially covers and trolleys. This aids identification of boats at sea (for example in the event that a boat does not return as expected), and can aid in recovery of boats and equipment if they are stolen or damaged. Covers and trolleys should be labelled with a sail number, surname and boat class. This does not need to be visible when the boat is put away, so can be on the underside of the cover or trolley. Boats should also have their WYC parking sticker clearly displayed, and readable when the boat is parked and covered.
The WYC Storage and Boat Parking policy has been updated to include “Trolleys, trailers, covers and any other equipment left on the beach when you go sailing must also be clearly labelled with your sail number and name to aid identification in the event of an incident.”
