Artists Open Houses - Thank You

A big thank you for everyone who displayed their work and helped to organise and run the Artists' Open Houses Exhibition at Whitstable Yacht Club. The feedback from the public was incredible. We hope to hold the event again next year and we look forward to you joining us in 2015.

Wanderer Inlands/Nationals, Bewl Valley SC, 4th/5th October

The Wanderer Nationals, combined with the Inlands following the cancellation at Whitstable in July, were sailed at Bewl Valley over the weekend 4th/5th October. There were 13 boats in the fleet, 4 of which were from WYC. Saturday ranged from force 5 in the morning to force 1 by the end of the 2nd race, and on Sunday the dreaded lack of wind struck again, so the event was decided on the two races completed on Saturday.

The overall winners were Tim Robertson with his daughter Niamh from Sutton Bingham SC. Of the WYC boats, Gavin Barr and Mark Skipper, W1282, won the first race, but could only manage 7th in race 2. This was good enough for 4th overall. Paul Yeadon and Liz North in W1626 suffered cruel luck, capsizing when hit by a vicious gust on the gybe while leading in race 1, and over the line at the start in race 2 (but recovering to claim 3rd). They were 7th overall, but were awarded a special prize for entertaining the fleet with the most spectacular capsize!. Nigel Stevens with Jon Taft in W1684 scored 2 solid 5th places and were 5th overall. They also won the first non-spinnaker boat prize. Paul Cross and Jeff Leyshon in W1099 battled manfully with the conditions but ended in 13th place.

Don Sims

We are sorry to announce that Don Sims passed away on 26th September. Our deepest condolences to his wife Maureen, family and many friends. He will be deeply missed. The wake will be held at the Yacht Club on Friday 10th October, details to follow.
