Rot of Ages

The scran bins are clean and free of rotting underwear. Useable clothing has been hung up to air. Everything disgusting is in the bin. Clothes hanging in the ladies' fire exit lobby will be binned after the end of June if not claimed. So will the paired-up footwear on the gents' outside steps. Good stuff from the gents' is in the wooden box under the tea bar stairs.

More Whitstable success

Congratulations to Will Lowes, crewed by Hugo Tucker, who finished 5th from a fleet of over 70 at the Feva nationals at Weymouth over the weekend. Also to Mark Barnes and Tom Pygall (standing in at the last minute for an injured Pete Nicholson) who were 6th at the B14 nationals at Plymouth. Well done boys!

Stunning win for Sophie

Sophie Mackley, sailing with Jo Richards, won the National 12 championships at Thorpe Bay over the Bank Holiday weekend. Sailing a revolutionary new design by Jo (his first since 1981) they had 6 firsts and a second in a 70 plus boat fleet, including winning the prestigious Burton Cup.

Congratulations to Meia and Elin at the Eric Twiname Trophy

The Mirror fleet enjoyed some great sailing at Eric Twiname on day one, with four close races in moderate breezes, with occasional gusts over 20 knots. With no wind and no racing on Day 2, the championships were settled over four races. Harnett sisters, Meia and Elin took home the ET Trophy, with Peter Sedgwick and Ewan Byers second, Helena Pugh and Liam Angrave taking the final podium position. This was also the first qualifier for the RYA National Squad, which saw current members Tom Lovesey and Milly Pugh, battling hard with Alex Lloyd and Jack Moore, both winning two races, with the former pair winning on count back, with Meia & Elin Harnett finishing an excellent third ahead of several National Squad boats.(Extracted from the Mirror class website)

RNLI Pursuit Race

Well done to our own Mark Barnes who beat 70 boats to win the Annual RNLI Pursuit Race in his B14. The event itself was very well organised by Bob Long - four different classes of boats in close contention for first place just goes to prove this. If you want a visual reminder of yesterday's race take a look at http://www.photoblink.com/sailing/whitstpur09/. We are grateful to Tania Samus who was our resident photographer for this event. In fact all participants can pat themselves on the back as we managed to raise approximately £270 for the RNLI. A very successful day for everyone!

Polite Request

I have been reminded by the Harbour Users that our members are still parking in front of the Fishermans Huts opposite the RNLI main entrance. You may not realise this but you are blocking the vents to the fisherman's refridgeration units which causes hot air to blow back into their fridges. As we move into the busy season I would be grateful if you could respect our neighbours' wishes (and tell others) - this is their livelihood and the Club works very hard to maintain good relations with those around us. Many thanks. Melanie, WYC

Sale of boats

There are a number of boats in the Chalet Park for which outstanding boat parking fees have not been paid. These boats will be sold in accordance with guidelines set out by the RYA. For further details see the notice board in the Sea Room.

Congratulations to Chris and Tom

Well done to Chris Lewns and Tom Pygall who won the Brightlingsea Merlin Rocket Open and Silver Tiller meeting at the weekend.

News from the sailing committee

At the sailing committee meeting last night some amendments to the racing schedule were agreed. More ›

WYC B14s and Musto Skiffs take on the best….

Update from Mark Marnes: B14s and Musto Skiffs attend Stokes Bay TTs. Whitstable Yacht club members take on the best at Stokes Bay in very tricky conditions. B14s: Eight races 5 different winners. Mark Barnes/Pete Nicholson, won a hard fought series by 2 points from Nick Craig/Steve Dunn (Frensham Pond) and Tim Harrison/Jonny Radcliffe (Harwich Haven). Musto Skiffs: Six race winners in the 8 race series. Andy Peake led the event going into the last race but with difficult conditions, had a mediocre result and lost out to Dan Henderson (Thorpe Bay) by 2 points and beat Richard Stenhouse (Rutland) on countback. Graeme Oliver 7th, Simon Reynolds 10th and Sergie Samus 28th also attended with some good results.

Tesco For Schools & Clubs - Vouchers

Just a reminder that we are collecting these vouchers. I plan to give these to the Cadet Class Captains to spend after the closing date. We have already banked several hundred vouchers last year which will be added to those collected over the next few months. As they say...."every little helps"!!! Melanie.

Boat parking on the beach

Some boat insurances stipulate that boats must be tied down when on the beach. If you need to move a boat that is tied down would you please retie it, as not to do so might invalidate the insurance. Many thanks.

Club Notice Board

I apologise as I know this is hardly newsworthy but I would appreciate it if members could ensure "for sale" notices are of a sensible size. I have been inundated with A4 advertisements and there simply isn't enough room. Please also be reminded that notices should come through the office first to be date stamped. I am really trying to keep our notice boards tidy and easy to read! Many thanks. Melanie.

Bar - Summer Opening Hours

We are now operating summer opening hours during the week: Monday to Friday - 11am - 2.30pm/5.30 to 11pm. Weekends times were unchanged and therefore stay the same. WYC
