New Racing Rules

The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) are updated every four years just after the Olympics. The new 2009 rules therefore run through until after the next games, i.e 2012. ISAF has published the new rules. A summary of the changes with explanations, together with the new rules can be seen at www.madforsailing.com (for those with access to this site). More ›

Webcam

I know of lot of you use the webcam but unfortunately we seem to have a connection problem with this at the moment. The whole system is under review and hopefully it will prove more reliable in the future. I have turned on and off nearly everything I can, have changed our wireless connection and jiggled around with wires but it still seems to be breaking down on a regular basis. I can only apologise and promise you a better system in the future. I will speak to our IT bods tomorrow. Melanie.

Forts Race

A truly successful weekend. Fifty entries, sunshine and good sailing breezes. Well done to the organising team… and here’s an extract from an e-mail just received from Don Findlay, our guest race officer:- “Thank you for making us so welcome. It is a joy to come to WYC each year. I cannot stress too strongly that the control of the RIBs and drivers by Ian is exemplary.” Congratulations to Rob Laws and Stuart France, first WYC boat at 6th overall.

More successes for our sailors abroad…

Well done to Max Hunt and Charlie Campion who both came 6th in their fleets. Max in the Masters Radial and Charlie in the Grand Masters Standard (they don't look old enough do they?)

WYC B14s Looking Good!

During 2008, Whitstable B14s, sailed by Mark Barnes/Pete Nicholson and Simon Hadley/Nicky Webster, have been attendees on the TT circuit. To date Barnes/Nicholson came second in the Nationals held over one day due to extreme conditions during the late May Bank Holiday. Read more about the dynamic duo. More ›

Sheppey Round the Island Success for WYC

Well done to the our Whitstable fleet on Saturday when an amazing 5 out of the 8 boats who competed in the race finished in the top 10! The results can be seen on the IOS Sailing Club website and a full report and pictures will be available on that website shortly.

Winter Evenings

We have plans for a series of winter talks and presentations. An excuse to foregather for a drink and learn something interesting! Do you have any requests or suggestions for topics? Needn't be 100% sailing related. Please send a note to Mel in the office.

WYC at the Feva Worlds

Will Lowes and Hugo Tucker took 33rd in the Gold fleet of the Feva world championship in Gottskar, Sweden, from a total entry of over 100. They were 3rd overall in the Junior Champion category.

Congratulations Christian

Congratulations to Christian Brewer who, crewing for former Whitstable member Stuart Jardine, has just won the XOD Captains Cup in Cowes Week from a fleet of 80 boats over 8 days of racing. This is the sixth time Christian has won it with Stuart, and its Stuart's seventh win.
