Committee boat starts for club racing

Members should note that we will be using our new temporary committee boat with effect from next Saturday 4 May. As the tide will be low the course will be laid well offshore to avoid shallows so sailors should allow more time to get to the start line. The starting sequence will be as normal (see club sailing instructions)

Prosper Arts Project – Event at WYC, and a display at the RYA Dingy Show!

Prosper

There will be an opportunity to view the output of the experimental stage of the joint arts project between WYC and local artists Tracey Falcon and Andy Evans on Friday 22nd February from 1930 at Whitstable Yacht Club. As well as being another opportunity to view the photos taken from the helicopter and plane in 2012, there will be a projection of the material collected and collated since the collaboration began, with an artistic twist! The night will also be the first opportunity to see the Laser sail printed with artwork that was specially commissioned for the project. After it’s unveiling at the club, the sail will then be put on display on a stand at the RYA Dingy Show in Alexandra Palace on 2nd and 3rd of March. More ›

Prosper Arts Project News Flash – First Viewing of the aerial Pictures on Saturday 5th January

For those interested (club members along with friends and guests) there is an opportunity to view the aerial photographs taken on two occasions recently at the club. As an added incentive to attend this event, those who took part in the final race of the season (Sunday 16th December) will be able to select one high quality picture to keep for free! To qualify for your free picture all you need do is attend the event.
This will be an opportunity to discuss the Prosper project with Andy and Tracey (our local artists and partners) and provide feedback and views on the images collected so far.

The event will commence at 7:30pm. To ensure we have your picture available, if you sailed on 16th December and will be attending, please let Richard Earland know by Friday 4th January.

New free WiFi access point

A new free WiFi access point is being trialled in the club bar. If this one proves to be better, then the old Freerunner hotspot will be removed in the new year. The hotspot should give you a stable connection to the internet while in the club building for smartphones, tablets and laptops! To access the hotspot, look for the "WYCFreeWiFi" wireless connection on your device, then follow the instructions on the login page. If you have any feedback on the new access point, please contact Robert Govier

Prosper Art Project update - Helicopter aerial photography

The Prosper Arts Project will be taking photographs of Whitstable Yacht Club and the last race of the season from a helicopter this Sunday! After success of the aerial photography from a plane on 18th November, the project wants to maximise the opportunity to capture aerial photography of the last race in the season on Sunday 16th December by hiring a JetRanger helicopter (and pilot) to fly from Manston to Whitstable harbour. The aircraft will be on task at 13:55 and fly not less than 600 feet altitude and remain over the beach or close inshore for 45 minutes. The aim is to follow the race and then return safely to Manston, with a total flight time of 1 hour 10 minutes. Please come and make the last race a good one, with as many boats on the water as possible, and members who aren't sailing on the beach for a great photo opportunity! More ›
