Committee Boat replacement update

An update on the progress on finding a replacement for Slotty Dawes...

Dear Members,

Since the loss of Slotty Dawes in April, I have been working with the Sailing and General Committees on a plan to find a replacement Committee Boat.

Based on feedback from members, especially those Race Officers and Recorders who went out on her regularly, and lessons learned from the commissioning and upkeep of Slotty Dawes, we put together a list of criteria to search against, and set a budget in agreement with the Treasurer and General Committee. The insurance cover on Slotty Dawes was not sufficient to cover the purchase a suitable boat, so we have been in contact with the family of Peter Hamlin, and agreed that some or all of the bequest he left to the club in 2010 should be used to fund the purchase of the new boat.

After investigating the new build options, and keeping a close eye on the second hand market, we have identified a boat for sale, which on paper looks suitable. We will be looking her over with a view (subject to surveys, etc) to buy her in time to be fitted out for the 2013 season.
