Well done to WYC Laser sailors Max Hunt and Charles Campion!

This time we've had it confirmed! The European Laser Master Championship 2013 held in Sweden has finished, and two Whitstable Sailors have great results. Max Hunt won the Men's Grand Master Laser Radial class, and Charles Campion came 9th in the Grand Master Laser Standard class. Well done to both sailors. WYC’s Max Hunt and Charles Campion were in Sweden last week for the Laser Masters European championship. Nine races over four days were held in challengingly light and shifty conditions combined with very unpredictable currents in the waters between Sweden and Denmark. Consistency was particularly difficult but Max pulled clear of the Grand Master Radial group at the end of day one and held onto a reducing lead at the end of day 3. A 3rd place finish out of the 70 plus overall radial fleet in race 8 would have been enough to secure victory but Max had jumped the gun by a fraction and was black flagged. With the second discard coming in with the 9th race all was not lost and a solid finish against his nearest rival in the last race of the series gave Max his first ever championship win by a slender 3 point margin. In the full-rig Charles was up against stiff competition and finished in a solid 9th.  Charles commented that more practice was required!  Next stop is the worlds in Oman in late November.
