1. Whitstable Yacht Club reserves the right, at all times, to cancel sessions at our discretion, due to weather. Refunds will be given for boat hire or it can be rolled over to the next week.
2. All participants MUST be between the ages 8 and 18, wear a buoyancy aid, wear appropriate clothing in and on the water. They must also be confident in the water wearing a buoyancy aid.
3. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the session. Parents are entirely responsible for their children’s sailing, for attending to any injuries sustained, damage or loss. This includes signing in & out, assisting their child with rigging, launching, recovery, de-rigging and putting away any boat sailed. Parents may of course sail with their child.
4. Registration Check-in and check-out will take place with a registrar at on the balcony outside the classroom for each session. This is essential for knowing who is on the water and when. The child must also collect a tally wristband and return when back off the water.
5. Neither WYC nor any of its employees or agents shall be liable in any way whatsoever in respect of loss or damage to property. The club can accept no responsibility for valuables.
6. Whitstable Yacht Club must be informed, of any medical condition affecting the participant, or of any medication taken by the participant that could affect their taking part in the above sailing session.
7. Club clothing can be borrowed at £1 per item. This needs to come back at the end of the session, washed thoroughly and in the right way around.
8. Club boats can be hired on prior request. Hire charges for cadets sessions are £8.00. The hiring parents will be entirely responsible for setting up, and putting away of the club boat. Participants are asked to respect the equipment provided; compensation will be sought from anyone deliberately causing damage to equipment.
9. Masthead flotation to avoid turtling in the event of a capsize is strongly recommended. (A securely fitted milk carton usually serves the purpose)
10. No cadets’ session can run without parent volunteers for key roles. Each week we will ask for a parent volunteer to assist as Registrar and for qualified Safety Boat drivers.
