Welcome Anthony Middleton – new Club Manager

We announced the recruitment of a new Club Manager last year in anticipation of the retirement of Sally Gostelow at the end of March and recognising Maureen Bush’s desire to step back from her role of volunteer Club Manager.

We are delighted to announce that Anthony Middleton has been appointed as the new Club Manager replacing Sally and working alongside Maureen as he takes over her role gradually over the rest of this club year. We believe that Anthony fulfils the requirements set for this role and will bring a blend of business experience and appreciation of the strengths of the club.

Anthony is keen to meet members and has written the following brief biography as an introduction:

“I am originally from Middlesbrough but lived in London for 30 years before moving to Tankerton in July 2024. I joined Whitstable Yacht Club and did my first course a few months before we even moved here as I was sure it would help my family settle into what was a big move. This proved to be the case: My son Dexter has become a keen, obsessive, Cadet and my wife Rachel is a regular at the Music Club.  I owned a restaurant in the City of London for 13 years and was commuting from Whitstable until I sold it last autumn. In the restaurant I did everything; cooked, managed waiting staff, accounts, events, unblocked drains… Before that I owned other businesses and I was a journalist in my twenties.

I sailed yachts for a while in my thirties but had never been drawn to dinghy sailing. However, with the fantastic set up at the club; great instructors, loads of opportunities to sail, access to equipment and the warm welcome from members, I am now the proud owner of a Topaz and have managed not to come last in at least one race!

I am really looking forward to getting started in my new role and hope to get to know everyone. I have been an owner and manager of my businesses for over thirty years and the opportunity to use this experience to help run such a wonderful organisation as Whitstable Yacht Club is genuinely a privilege.”
