Late summer sailing update

Following a very breezy weekend it feels like the seasons are starting to turn – well done to those who raced this weekend – both days were a challenge although Saturday’s course with gybes and a run for the Lasers was great to watch from the committee boat!

Committee Boat

We have now had Slotty for over 10 years which is why her Coppercoat antifouling was replaced earlier this season – being epoxy based this had to be done at reasonable temperatures and we were lucky to get some good weather to speed the process. Slotty’s anchor winch is no longer usable and will be replaced at the end of the season; we can still use Slotty if the water is relatively flat but recovering the anchor in a seaway can be somewhat challenging. Races will take place either with Slotty on her mooring or from the club line at the discretion of the RO and Slotty driver in rougher weather.

Bart’s Bash

We are designating our autumn series race on September 14th as our Bart’s Bash race in aid of the Andrew Simpson Foundation, a charity that helps young people through watersports in memory of Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson a British Olympic medal winner and all-round nice guy who died in an accident training for the America’s Cup.

There is one race at 15.00 and there will be one start for all boats (including TTR) with all boats timed and submitted to the world’s biggest race – it will also count toward the autumn series.

We would ask for a contribution to the Andrew Simpson foundation of £5 per entry either at the event or via our website: https://www.wyc.org.uk/sailing-event-entries/

Remaining Cadet/Improver/Transition to racing races

There are two remaining Cadet/Improver/Transition to racing races (Sep 14 and Oct 11) – if you wish to compete as TTR can you please make it clear when signing on AND advise the RO and recorder if the committee boat is being used.
