Salsa Night at WYC!

Learn the basics of Salsa dancing this autumn with Tony Ullman and his wife Aisha. Regular sailors will know Tony from the Laser fleet but what you may not know is that he is an experience Salsa performer and teacher He’s taught for over 30 years and he and Aisha want to share their passion and knowledge with other club members.

The first session will be an introduction: Tony will get people out on the floor, explain what Salsa is and show a few basic steps and moves and let everyone practice together. There’s no need to worry if you come along by yourself, Tony will keep moving everyone around and he discourages partners from dancing together all night!

Salsa music is, as the name suggests, a fusion of Afro-Cuban music and dance, with the movement developing among the Latin American community in the USA: Tony will specifically look at LA style Salsa in this first session.

There’ll be two 40 minute sessions with a break to catch your breath in between and if it’s a success we hope to persuade Tony to carry on with more sessions focussing on specific Salsa dance traditions.

This event is free and participants should wear smooth soled shoes.
