We regret to report that Kalopsidiotis passed away at the beginning of March.
An active member of Whitstable Maritime and the local costal community, Peter, the Vice-Chair responsible for the Gamecock restoration project, was frequently found under the hull of the Gamecock removing, replacing or repairing parts.
Whilst a volunteer himself, Peter helped lead and guide other restoration volunteers and assisted with materials purchase such as visits to local sawmills sourcing oak, larch and pine. He was instrumental in running an extensive Trunnel Programme which involved designing, making and stress-testing them – with fascinating results; Trunnels beat metal fittings!
A keen advocate of ‘Money for Old Rope’ – it was amazing what Peter could produce from Gamecock’s old rigging. With a background in rigging both in the music industry and theatre, Peter would regularly produce mats, fenders, coasters, pot hangers – you name it!
Details of the memorial service will be announced shortly.
